點燈是開啓自己智慧並消除無名障礙及任何事業或其他的不順遂最好的方法之一。新年祈福點燈，幫自己及家人帶來平安，減少業障，並增加新的一年光明。如太陽光照明一切眾生及自己。
佛說「燈是光明與智慧的象徵」，因此透過點燈的動作，可以點燃人們心中的「自性燈」，喚醒本來的心性，進而能夠親近佛法與善知識。點燈也是一種布施，布施令人生出法喜，透過法喜去幫助需要幫助的人，形成了善因緣。種善因得樂果，人們自然會享受到因點燈引發的種種善行，所帶來的福德利益.
這個無量的功德，尤其是幫自己累世的祖先及中陰間的眾生，讓他們可以得到光明而不受黑暗中的苦及害怕。由於我們提供了光明，他們才能看清自己的本尊，並接受引導至本尊的浄土。
仁波切鼓勵弟子點燈的原因，除了祈福之外，希望弟子能夠發善心、立善願，進而接觸佛法、體証佛法，為自己積聚覺悟成佛的資糧，消災解厄、轉運得福。如佛一般的慈悲與智慧，自然能破除一切的煩惱無明與障礙，藉由燈火光明來引發人們內在的菩提心，功德更為殊勝，當我們在許願點燈之餘，更要發下大願，為普世光明而祈求，這樣宏大的願力，才是生生世世擁有福德與智慧的保障。

New year lighting up candle and make wishes is the best way to increase our wisdom and credit and will also reduce the chance of problems and challenges in what we do every day. This will bring us the bright light like sun shine and it will shine on us, everyone and all sentient beings.
To light a candle is like lighting up our inner self and awaken our inner mind. So we are able to be closer to Buddhism,to a good master and good people. This is also like offering and giving. Because we offer light to people and people are happy to see brightness, and their mind is much happier and therefore they are also happy to help others. This creates a good karma connection.
Our candle light-up also provides light for our ancestors and all sentient beings and will guide them to find a clear direction to reach where they need to be.
Busa Trulku always encourages disciples to light up candles and make bigger wishes and dedicate to all sentient beings. This will increase our wisdom and mercy hearts and reduce our 5 poisons and bad karma.
